New Summer Camp site 2021
We are happy to let you know we have a new site for Summer Camp!
Miranda and Mark have found a nice spot on the Orere Stream within the Auckland borders. This means no one will have to queue up at checkpoints to get out of Auckland, and means we can all feel secure that Summer Camp can indeed go ahead this year. To book, contact Peter Jemmett. See more information on booking and photos of the campsite below.
Summer Camp 2021/2022 - Orere Stream
Duration: Sunday 26th December 2021 - Monday 3rd January 2022
Covid 19 Planning: The camp will only go ahead dependent on government guidelines and restrictions. If we are in the new Covid-19 Protection Framework at Traffic Light Red we'll have to limit the numbers to 100. Club members will have priority at time of booking.
VACCINATION: Everyone eligible must be double vaccinated. This is a requirement of the farmer, as well as fully supported by the club.
Location: Nestled in a bend of the Orere stream, the campsite has a view up towards the pristine hills of the Hunua Ranges. ASC will have access to the stream and the use of a spacious paddock with plenty of flat space, with hills above. The Orere stream is ideal for rock hopping, exploring and making dams. There are a few deeper areas where several children or a few adults could swim at once. Even though the stream runs through farmland for a few kilometres before it reaches the campsite, it has its origins in the Hunua ranges and the water quality is very good.
Things to do in the area include visiting the Waitawa Regional Park, Kawakawa Bay, Orere Point and Tapapakanga Regional Park, with multiple stunning beaches including the foot/kayak accessible only Tawhitokino beach. Excellent sea kayaking. There are coastal walks, including inland walks through kauri forest. Please ensure all shoes are scrubbed and disinfected before you come to camp. Mountain biking – there is a high speed downhill mountain bike track close to camp.
Positive aspects of camping within the Auckland Region include: no waiting at checkpoints if we need to show vaccine certificates, being close to Auckland to get extra supplies if needed. It also gives us a chance to explore all aspects of an area we may have only enjoyed on a day trip.
Booking: You need to be an ASC member to book a spot at Summer Camp.
Contact Peter Jemmett to book firstname.lastname@example.org Please include a declaration of the vaccine status for all members 12+. Evidence of vaccine will be checked at camp, once the vaccine passports are rolled out.
