Conditions in the outdoors can change rapidly – even on a fine day. Be equipped with warm and waterproof clothing
Take a torch even on a day trip. Things can go wrong and a group could be caught out as darkness falls.
Always carry your own personal first aid kit and ensure the leader is aware of any potential medical problems you may have..
Always carry an emergency blanket, these are cheap and light to carry but can save lives in an emergency.
Always carry a cellphone and Personal Locator Beacon. If coverage is available the cellphone is the preferred means of advising of an emergency because the leader can then be specific as to the nature of the problem.
Wear at least one article of clothing that is brightly coloured so you can be seen.
Learn to recognise the early signs of the onset of Hypothermia
If you become separated from your party, remain where you are, keep warm and wait to be found.
